ON 8/2/1997 , MV “” LYME BAY “” ARRIVED DEKHELLA PORT WITH A SHIPMENT OF 141 CONTAINERS ( 71 CONTAINERS TO BE DELIVERED AT ALEXANDRIA PORT , 70 CONTAINERS TO BE DELIVERED AT MERSIN , TURKEY ) . THE SHIP ARRIVED DEKHELLA PORT WITH HEAVY TRIM TOWARDS THE LEFT SIDE . IT WAS TOWED BY A . P . A LAUNCH TO QUAY NO. 96 AT DEKHELLAPORT . SHIP’S MASTER TRIED TO PUT IT IN THE RIGHT POSITION BY USING BALAST WATER INTO THE RIGHT TANKS , BUT THE SHIP TURNED ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND SANK .

COMPANIES , SO IT PLAYED A GOOD ROLE IN THE PROCEDURES OF ARRESTING THE SHIP TO SAFEGUARD THE RIGHTS OF INSURANCE COMPANIES WHICH BECAME THE OWNER OF THE CARGO BY THE SUBROGATION FORMS .
CLAIMS WERE PRESENTED TO COURT TO STATE THE CONDITION OF SHIP’S CARGO IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE MARKET VALUE AT THAT TIME .
A DECISION WAS ISSUED BY ALEXANDRIA PORT AUTHORITY A.P.A WITH THE CONDITION OF CLEARING THE CARGO OF MV “ LYME BAY “ INCLUDING THAT A SURVEY REPORT SHOULD BE ISSUED BY OUR OFFICE ON THE CONDITION OF ALL CONSIGNMENTS OF THAT SHIP .
OUR OFFICE WAS A MEMBER OF A COMMITTEE FORMED FROM THE FOLLOWING PARTIES
WHICH WAS FORMED TO SURVEY THE CONTENTS OF THE SALVAGE CONTAINERS.
